Can Vaccines Be Used To Fight Super Bacteria?

If you have ever had a really bad ear-ache. You go to the doctors and and, after he or she has checked your ears the possibility of you being prescribed an antibiotic is high. What happens if the antibiotic is not taken as prescribed? Sometimes nothing happens, but occasionally the bacteria linger and build up a resistance to the specific antibiotic. This can also happen with viruses and vaccines.

A vaccine is a variation of a particular disease that cannot reproduce. It is manipulated so that it can't do any harm but it is so similar to the harmful version it stimulates antibodies to the disease and so builds up immunity within the person to that disease.

The current issue with antibiotic-resistant bacteria is one that is also causing concern and study within the medical community in relation to vaccines. What if a virus which causes a disease, such as polio or measles (both caused by viruses), mutates with the result that the vaccine stops working?

Antibiotics are prescribed when bacteria are present usually in large numbers) within the human body. We are subject to attack from many bacteria every day and normally, the body's immune system can overcome most of the common bacteria found in the world.

There are bacteria however, that infect the body and overpower the immune system, and as a result a little help from antibiotics is needed.

A disease such as measles or even the flu (influenza) is not caused by bacteria but by a virus and if a part of a strand of it's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) mutates or changes then any vaccine used to prevent the disease may stop working however usually a modified vaccine can be produced to match the mutated virus.

If you consider influenza (flu). Normally each year a new or diffferent version of the virus is found to be responsible for the "flu". But once the version is identified a vaccine is created to prevent the illness from spreading.

A viral disease, like the flu, is not affected by antibiotics and must be treated in a different way. In fact, once the disease is caught, the human body must weather through it because by that point a vaccine would normally be useless.

There are a small number of viral illnesses, for example the rabies virus, that will respond to a vaccine if it is administered early enough, however, vaccines must normally be administered in advance for the body to be effectively protected.

Vaccines have saved countless lives over the last century and unlike their antibiotic cousins, have not shown to create mutations in the viruses they are preventing. As a result scientists are now debating whether or not vaccines can come into play in treating bacterial infections, particularly where antibiotics are failing.

Should this become a reality, individuals currently defenseless against the super bacteria (such as MRSA) could find themselves once again able to fight off these threats to life and health. The possibilities of a disease becoming resistant to the vaccine are almost negligible.

Insomnia and The Sleep Disorders Depression Anxiety Connection

At one time or another everyone has suffered from a poor night's sleep. If your lack of sleep continues for more than a few nights you could have a sleep disorder, which have been known to cause depression and anxiety in some people if they do nothing about it. Sleep disorders, along with the depression and anxiety that they can trigger, can be corrected by learning to about the causes of sleep depravation and how to avoid them.

There are a number of factors that can contribute to having a restless night's sleep. Sometimes a mild environmental factor, such as an overly warm temperature can contribute to having difficulty falling asleep. Of course, there can also be a number of serious factors that can contribute to sleep disorders.

The sleep disorders depression anxiety connection is not one to be taken lightly as the inability to sleep or maintain solid sleeping patterns is often connected with serious underlying psychological and psychiatric problems. Many people can suffer from the affects of disorders for years because of their refusal to deal with certain mental problems.

There is an unfortunate stigmatism associated with mental disorders in that people will think that others will think they are "crazy" if they find out they have a mental condition. The fact is that a lot of people suffer from mental problmes, and many that do live very normal day to day lives because they have educated themselves and learned to cope with their problem.

Understanding Sleep Disorders Depression Anxiety and Their Connection

There are a number of serious psychiatric conditions that can exist beneath the surface of sleeping disorders. Bipolar disorder, General Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Behavior, etc can all contribute to the myriad of sleep disorders. Also, it must be noted that sleep disorders do not always refer to the inability to fall asleep. Some sleeping disorders that cause anxiety and depression involve sleeping too much, or the inability to stay awake.

In some cases, the inability to stay awake can later be combined with the inability to fall asleep as well. This is common in bipolar sleep disorders depression, anxiety combinations. As such, proper treatment will be required in order to offset such problems.

Proper Treatment of Sleep Disorders Depression Anxiety

The best way to treat these conditions would be to try several natural sleep remedies such as exercising more throughout the day, watching your intake of alcohol, caffeine, and sugar, and getting yourself in a sleep routine of going to bed and waking up at the same time every night and morning. Sleep insomnia and its side effects such as depression and anxiety can be very debilitating to our lives. However, there are alternative ways to solve the problem once you educate yourself about yourself and your conditions.

Also, you need to believe that your lack of sleep is a temporary situation that you can fix. You won't fix any problems unless mentally you believe that is can be done. Hopefully you can naturally get rid of your sleep disorders depression and anxiety. If your depression and anxiety become very serious, your sleep disorder may require medical attention and medication.

Do You Have a Sleep Disorder?

Users always ask me how they can tell if they have a sleep disorder. The advice I usually give them is to use a log book and record any happenings before, during or after your sleep. You will be pleasantly surprised at the results you can glean when you look at these seemingly isolated incidents at a later time.

Typically, a sign that you have a sleep disorder is if you have trouble going to sleep or staying asleep, problems staying awake, unusual behaviors during sleep (e.g., sleep walking, restless leg syndrome or grinding of teeth), very loud, disruptive snoring, or episodes where people see you stop breathing during sleep (sleep apnea). If any of these issues are present, check out my other articles for some simple home remedies you can try tonight. Usually, poor sleep habits are mistaken for sleep disorders; you should definitely exhaust all the options suggested before going for professional help. Next, I will talk about the main questions you have to ask yourself to verify if you have a sleep disorder.

How is your sleep? Note if you have difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep, or if the problem is early morning awakening. Also, be able to assess if the problem is dependent on quality versus quantity of sleep. If you have difficulty sleeping, do you get stressed and frustrated by your inability to sleep? What do you do when you can’t sleep? Head to the fridge, read a book or watch the television?

What happens while you are asleep? Obviously, a bed partner would be most useful to answer these questions. Is loud snoring or witnessed apneas (stopping of breathing) present? Note if there are any repetitive movements that occur during sleep or when relaxing trying to get to sleep. Do you dream about threatening or frightening situations on a frequent basis? Do you experience unexplained episodes of night terrors? Do you sleep walk, talk, grind your teeth, or wake up confused?
What is you weekday and weekend bedtime and rise time? An important differentiating factor in judging the significance of a sleep problem is if it is present even when you have the chance to “sleep in.” Also important is how continuous the sleep is. Are there many awakenings and if so how long are they? Bear in mind that sleeping for 9 hours and being awakened in the middle of the night might not be as productive a sleep as 8 hours of uninterrupted rest.

How tired are you during the day? Do you notice yourself closing your eyes while driving, working or studying? How easy is it for you to feel lethargic?

What is your medical and psychiatric history? Many psychiatric and medical conditions will affect the way you sleep, so be able to name your medical problems. Your depression or anxiousness might be the cause of your sleeplessness.  Also, do you use any medications to help you sleep or stay awake, even over-the-counter drugs such as sleeping/caffeine pills? Make a list of supplements/medication that you take regularly.
